Band Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What
style of music do you play?
A. The PYRAMID
BANDS specialize in "Dance" Music for all occasions. We perform
music from the 1930's right thru to the 2000's. Our strength is Big Band
Music, however we play a variety of the most popular styles of music -
just look at our song list.
Q. How expensive
is a "Big Band"?
A. The PYRAMID
BANDS are among the most competitively priced groups. Pricing for
a particular function depends on a number of variables including time,
duration, and the size of band; if applicable rehearsals, lodging and
travel also affects pricing. Not only can we provide DJ music during our
breaks; we can also provide solo, duo, trio or quartet music for the cocktail
or dinner hour(s). For a quote, please either call
or send an e-mail request. Ceremonial music
(Classical, Jazz or Popular) is also available.
Q. How much
space does the band need?
A. The band's stage area requirements vary, depending
on the type of event and the size of band you request. We do realize that
some venues are not able to provide a great deal of area. We work
within the available space provided. If the
event is a large ballroom, usually the stage is 16' deep by 24' to 30'
wide. Prior to your parties' arrival, most large equipment (lights, music
stands, speakers, and so forth) is usually set up. Please contact
our sound engineer
with specific questions and/or concerns.
Q. How does
the band dress for a wedding or corporate function?
A. The gentlemen in the band wear tuxedos and our female vocalist
wears formal evening attire. Please refer to our photo gallery.
Q. Do you
have a less formal look?
A. In addition to our "Black Tie Look" - tuxedos, we have our "Gangster
Look" - black shirt & black pants with red ties/suspenders; or a "Very
Casual Look" which features our polo shirts with black pants.
Q. Is music
provided during your breaks?
A. Yes. We include playing a single CD to keep continuous music during
our breaks. As another alternative, we can provide professional DJ music
at a reasonable rate.
Q. Our first
dance or bridal party song is not on the song list?
A. We require 12 weeks notification of title and artist, in order
to attempt to obtain the music and for rehearsal purpose. If the music
is unavailable, we will contact you to discuss our options. In the event
you have a pre planned dance routine and prefer, we can utilize a CD version
of the original artist's song.
Q. How long do you typically
play?
A. We perform anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending on the venue.
Q. How long
has the band been together?
A. The PYRAMID
BANDS have been performing since 1993. In addition, each of our
musicians brings many years of musical experience.
Q. I have decided that I
want the PYRAMID
BAND. What happens next?
A. We send you our musical services contract that clearly spells out
the terms and conditions. Your deposit is due along with the returned
signed agreement.
Q. Where
can we see the band play?
A. Since a majority of our performances are private functions, your
best bet is to call us about our upcoming schedule. Usually it is OK to
come out to a wedding and listen to/view the band. You must be appropriately
attired in dress clothes. Each function and facility has its own guidelines
for viewers, including some that do not allow any viewers. Please also
refer to our band rehearsals.
Q. Do I need
to meet with the Band?
A. In most cases, event planning takes place over the telephone and
via email or mail. If necessary, scheduling a time to meet is possible.
Q. I am interested in your
band, but my party is not in the Buffalo area. Are you willing to travel?
A. Yes, we have traveled, and will travel. Depending on the location
and duration of the job - meal(s), travel, and/or lodging may be necessary.
Please contact us for any out
of town travel.
Q. Does the
band have references?
A. Yes. Many anniversaries, committees, conventions, corporations
& hundreds of happy wedding couples. If you feel the need to personally
talk to a reference, please call us and we will be glad to put you in
contact with them.
Q. We are
looking for more choices and help with our celebration plans ?
A. As your music professionals, we come in contact with a wide variety
of professionals in other related party and wedding fields. Please
check out our link page which includes cakes
to party planners. Check out our wedding
trivia pages for interesting customs and facts.
Q. What is
a PYRAMID
BAND rehearsal all about?
A. The PYRAMID
BAND rehearses from September until the end of
June on Thursdays at 8:30 PM. We'll take off during some of
the various holidays (Spring Break - Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas,
New Years) and the occasional SEVERE weather storm (which usually
is a Lake Effect Snow Storm). Rehearsal dates are subject
to change, but we do keep a current schedule on the web site; and you
can stay informed should there be any last minute changes via the Pyramid
email list. The rehearsals are always open to the public.
Interested customers can view the band. It's a great night out to
meet up with friends in a relaxed roomy atmosphere to see and hear the
band. PYRAMID
BAND rehearsals provide an open environment for the regular
and substitute members of the band to practice and improve some of
the finer (and sometimes difficult musical passages) of the over 2000
musical selections in the library. We rehearse a variety
of songs and musical styles, both instrumental and vocal. You
won't see the band in a formal setting with the fancy music stands,
full stage lighting, our formal "Tuxedo" attire or our
"show style" performance. Although there may
be some starting and stopping of certain selections, generally you'll
hear 10 to 20 full songs per rehearsal. Our rehearsal locations
have included: The Maple Inn (aka Pyramid Lounge), Studio 652,
The Woodlawn Hotel, Root 5, Jacobi's NiteClub & Restaurant and McKinley's
Club Paradise. Currently, Jacobi's NiteClub
& Restaurant provides a great location. They are located
1404
Abbott Road Lackawanna. It's easy to get to; good food; great
acoustics; WOODEN dance floor; lots of parking; plenty
of table space to sit back, listen and enjoy your favorite beverage and
the PYRAMID BAND
on a full stage.
